Flying Tiger Holds on to Win Melges 15 Easterns

A breezy Sunday on Dublin Bay with gusts up to 25 knots brought fast, exciting sailing for the Melges 15 fleet.

Overnight leaders Flying Tiger (John Sheehy and Isabel O'Grady) held on to win by two points, though not without a few calamitous errors on Sunday's racing. A three-way tie break for second overall was a good indication of the close racing over the weekend. Shifty, gusty conditions kept the sailors on their toes with fast downwind finishes the order of the day.

Howth’s representative Jack and Tom McMahon found the fresher conditions on Sunday to their liking, with bragging rights of fastest sailors of the weekend, tagging 17.2 knots as they approached the downwind gate.

The East Coast saw many class debutants with the flexible combo of Ross, Marty and Rachel O’Leary picking up some wins, as did another debutant, Trevor Bolger, who partnered with Ronan Murphy for the weekend to good effect, coming second overall.

First Ladeis, Alannah Lyttle and Hana Branford

Taking away the prize for the first all-female crew were Alannah Lyttle and Hana Branford, who had many strong moments over the weekend, leading to a seventh-place overall finish.
